Oliver Pilić, The Visual Architecture of Doubt

Artist Oliver Pilić has conceived a series of prints in his distinctive style at the MGLC Print Studio, based on combining traditional woodcut techniques with contemporary digital technologies and various software tools. He has also produced new works using the screenprinting technique, conceptually rounding off his exploration of how publicly accessible photographs are used and understood, which is essentially defined by the context of origin and manipulation of reuse. This is no longer merely an aesthetic tool, but a conceptual gesture – a way of restoring physicality, durability and uniqueness to images intended for rapid media consumption. In Pilić's practice, each image from the mass media archive is transformed into a thoughtful metamorphosis, inscribed with time and touch. Pilić not only appropriates the image but also transforms it physically and temporally to show how the meaning of the image changes as it passes through mediums and materials.
